Liz Came To Visit!!

Miss Hammersley's friend Liz came all the way from Canada for a visit this school holidays!

Miss Hammersley has been very excited to have her come visit. Liz spent three days at Burwood School seeing what is was like at a New Zealand School. We loved showing her the sorts of things we learn and do here at Burwood School.

Liz is a teacher in Canada and teaches at an all girls school in Toronto. Miss Hammersley and Liz went to Teacher's College together here in Christchurch.

Sherbet

Our writing topic this half of the term has been Procedure Writing.
We made Sherbet on Monday of Week 9, and we are going to write the Procedure below:

Our goal is to make delicious, mouth watering Sherbet.

Our ingredients are:
1/2 tsp Baking Soda
1/2 tsp Citric Acid
1/2 tsp Tartaric Acid
1/2 cup Icing sugar
About 5 tsp of Raro

Equipment:
Teaspoons
Bowls
Mixing Spoons
Measuring Cup
Cup Cake cases

Safety Issues:
CLEAN HANDS

Clean Equipment
We need fresh ingredients
Adult Supervision

Steps:
First you get Icing Sugar because it is the most in quantity. You put 1/2 a cup into a bowl.
Then you put in the Baking Soda, 1/2 a teaspoon. After that we put 1/2 a teaspoon of Citric Acid and 1/2 teaspoon of Tartaric Acid. Finally we add about 5 teaspoons of Raro - we used Orange Passion, but you can choose your favourite flavour.
Now you mix all the ingredients together. After they are all mixed up, we can spoon some into the cup cake cases.
THEN WE EAT OUR SHERBET!!!

Maddy is mixing the mixture

First Aid Course

Today we had a First Aid Course.
Jessica from St John Ambulance came and showed us lots of interesting things.

She taught us how to call Emergency 111 without panicking, how to put people into the recovery position, how to wrap bandages around injuries, how to stop bleeding and how to stop nose bleeds.

We are now ready for anything!

What we're up to - Week 6 Room 5's Busy Bodies!

Our Topic: INDONESIA
We are making brochures using Pages on the Mac PODs all about Indonesia - photos to come!
I wonder if anyone from Indonesia has visited our Blog? Can you give us some information?

Garageband:
Garageband was really fun and we learned about different music tunes and sounds so it sounds really good. Mrs Hurley showed us on Fridays how to make some awesome Garageband songs.

Creative Writing:
Our Creative writing this term has been based around Keys. We all picked a key from Miss Hammersley and then we had to describe it and put it into a story. We had a huge amount of different keys to chose from. They were rusty, shiney, blue, pink, gold and silver. They were different shapes and sizes, they came in sets and some were the same as each other.
We are still working on these descriptive stories, we will add some soon for you to read.

Kite Flying:
We made kites and flew them last Friday at morning tea time. We made them for Matariki - Maori New Year. There are seven stars called The Seven Sisters. It was really fun and we saw lots of different kites - all different shapes and sizes. Lots of them flew really high. Some parents came as well to enjoy the fun.
The children who had the best kites, got to plant a tree in the garden where the pool used to be.
